DECEMBER 16th 2009 I have recieved a couple of e-mails bringing to my attention that there apparently is a Wikipedia article on me nowadays. Feels kind of cool and weird at the same time.
There are a few minor errors though; yes, that is my full name but I was actually born with the last name Norum (which I only had for a year or so) and even though I was raised in Föllinge I was born at the hospital in Östersund like all the other kids in the region. And if I would choose three musical influences I'd say Phil Spector, Death Cab for Cutie and Teenage Fanclub.
DECEMBER 2nd 2009 Renowned music site Cokemachineglow's David Ritter has written a lovely piece on my demo-EPs and you can read the full article here.
Or, I can just leave you with a quote that almost makes me blush:
"Each song is made of melodies and bridges and outros that shine with the light of their justice, that ring with the truth of the world."
SEPTEMBER 24th 2009 I am very proud and happy to announce that I have just signed a deal with Scandinavia's largest booking agency United Stage Artist. Their roster includes some of the biggest artists from Sweden right now - like Anna Ternheim (great!), Sophie Zelmani (amazing!), Kent (semi-great!) and Ace of Base (...!).
This means that there will be more frequent Bedroom Eyes live shows in the future and new places to visit and people to meet. Cool!
For information on how to book a show, just see further down on this page.
SEPTEMBER 1st 2009 When I posted this months current favorites (scroll down) I couldn't help from compiling a special themed Spotify playlist as well, with focus on the ongoing indie scene in Oslo. So go the MySpace blog to pick up the playlist link and read about the songs or just scroll down on this page to find the playlist.
AUGUST 15th 2009 The first monthly Bedroom Eyes Spotify playlist (see previous post) is posted both on MySpace and a bit down on this page.
Click here to open the list and go to the MySpace blog to read all about the songs I've picked for this month.
JULY 28th 2009 Bedroom Eyes will be DJing in your living room every month from now on starting in two weeks!
I will post a 10 song Spotify playlist on the 15th of every month, both here on bedroomeyes.se and on MySpace.
It's going to be a wide selection of songs - forgotten indie gems, evergreens, current club favorites, sad Swedish 50s movie soundtracks, bon fire sing-a-longs, guilty pleasures and highway traveling companions.
The only thing the songs will have in common is that they have meant a great deal to me one way or another.
So stop by the 15th of every month starting in august - you're in for a treat!
JULY 1st 2009 Here's a lovely clip of a young man named Chris Cox doing a version of Bedroom Eyes tune "The Skywriter" somewhere in England. Enjoy!
Oh, and like the start of every month my current favorites are updated (scroll down on this page).
JUNE 1st 2009
Someone e-mailed me and pointed out that there are guitar chords for several of my songs posted on various web sites, and they seem pretty accurate to me. Here's a challenge for you: I will send out signed copies of the debut album on the day of the release (yet to be determined) to the first person to post a YouTube clip of themselves singing and/or playing a Bedroom Eyes song!
MAY 18th 2009 Japanese pop culture paper Merci Magazine has an interview with me (in Japanese, how cool isn't that?) regarding my upcoming album in their latest issue. It can be ordered online at ABC Books from June 1st and a YouTube trailer can be found here.
MAY 17th 2009 I ran into Norwegian pop stars My Little Pony while visiting the southernmost parts of Sweden a couple of weeks ago. They wanted me to join in on an acoustic live video for one of their songs and here is the result. Do yourself a big favor and lay your hands on a copy of their great debut album Think Too Much.
APRIL 29th 2009 NEW SHOW CONFIRMED. We're playing Lilla Hotellbaren / Scandic Malmen on Götgatan in Stockholm, Sweden on Monday May 11th. Doors open at 19:00 (7pm) and we're on stage at 21:00 (9pm). Don't be late because we're ususally pretty punctual. I can promise you this - we will do our best to blow that hotel apart with a bliss of heartache, dancing and maybe a few new songs - hope I'll see you there.
MARCH 1st 2009 There are some Japanese and Swedish music sites announcing differing release dates for the upcoming album. This is totally false - there is NO date set for release. I can promise you that when there actually is a date set you can read about it here first.
FEBRUARY 18th 2009
Yes, the news are official. I have been busy for quite a long time now recording
the upcoming debut album. It is not completely finished but we're at the very
end now. Me and the lovely guys of the live band have spent the best days I
might have ever experienced in the magnificent all-analogue studio Ocean
Sound Recordings, built in a boathouse on the shores of the tiny west coast
island Giske in Norway. Giske is, by far, the most breathtakingly beautiful
place I have ever visited and I think we got a whole lot of these surrounding
good vibes stuck on tape. There simply can not have been a better way to record this album than on this sandy shore, outlooking the Atlantic Ocean
with beautiful people in sundresses and 60s shades zooming by the big glassed studio wall on bicycles.
Families and young lovers frolicing and laughing in the ocean water just a few
feet away from a bunch of Swedish youngsters with guitars on the other side
of the glass wall, trying to make magic happen.
I even found a four leaf clover outside the studio just minutes before we started
recording.
That's magic for you.
I am going to keep the title, number of songs and pretty much all other details
secret until the record is out.
It's just more fun that way.
But I can tell you this: there are people involved which I am more than proud
to have onboard this album and we have been trying our best from day one of
recording not to let you down. And our fantastic engineer Herman Söderström
(The Cardigans, Hello Saferide, The Margarets) is nothing short of a guarantee
for a fresh and great sound.
And don't miss to check out the new pictures taken by the equally talented and cool photographer Severus Tenenbaum.
Yeah, that's all for today. Talk to you soon!
All the best,
Jonas
Beautifully set at the foot of the windswept Swedish mountains lies the small
city of Östersund.
This is where Jonas Jonsson dresses up in a slender, white suit under
his moniker Bedroom Eyes, armed with songs that aim to be vivid and short compounds
of bright melodies and heartfelt matters.
Wrapping an exploding indie pop with unrequested love, wishful thinking, unwavering
trust in infinite possibilities, wrong roads taken, blissful hopes and a constantly
present longing to belong.
Releasing two demo-EPs - Embrace In Stereo EP (2006) and Valentine
Vacancy EP (2007) - for free online download stirred up a massive internet
hype (140.000 downloads of the underground hit Motorcycle Daydream alone)
and numerous large music magazines and newspapers such as Rolling Stone
and Der Spiegel gave the EPs raving reviews. Bedroom Eyes cut the top
five in the world's most popular blog artists in early 2007 according
to music statistics site Elbows and this publicity boom has to date given
the demo songs airplay on radio stations in more than twenty countries worldwide,
despite the lack of a record deal.
A five-piece backing band joins the euphoric live shows, crediting amongst a
number of Scandinavian festival performances a critically praised appearance
at Norway's biggest festival Quart in 2007.
Bedroom Eyes is now in the process of mixing the debut album recorded in Norwegian
all-analogue studio Ocean Sound Recordings engineered by Herman Söderström
(The Cardigans, Hello Saferide). Hopefully Der Spiegel will be
proven right when predicting that Bedroom Eyes will not stay unsigned for long.
This is pop music from the heart - to the feet.
The live band:
Mattias Andersson: bass
Henric Boija: guitar
Kim Fastesson: guitar
David Forslund: trumpet & melodica
Emil Karlsson: drums
The Current Favorites are updated the 1st of every month and The Monthly Spotify Playlist every 15th. Visit the myspace blog to read about the playlists.
"Specialized in gracious songs of heartaches and personal dramas. [...] A strong songwriting. Jens Lekman meets Belle & Sebastian with melodies from the top drawer."
Gerrit Pohl
"Marvelously airy, harmony-blessed pop songs. [...] He finds the balance between angelic refrains and energetic backing. This Swedish saga will continue."
Heiko Behr
"Not only are the [Swedish] people productive, but they are pretty,
educated and insist on encouraging a massive culture industry that produces
beautiful bands like Mando Diao, not to mention Peter, Bjorn & John,
Bedroom Eyes and The Knife." Paul Wheeler
"Med trenchcoat, trumpetsolo och klangspel sjunger Jonas Jonsson vekt vemodig pop om Television Personalities och om hjärtan som är bona fide.
Vem kan låta bli att älska det?"
